Solemnity or pastoral drama that traditionally it is played during the Christmas, is a survivor from the medieval Christian festivities, in that the cult of the ox was made in honor to Christ's birth. Of Portuguese-Iberian tradition of the sixteenth century, it was born from the slaves and people from the mills and farms. In Cariri, it is accompanied by a band cabaçal also called Band of Leather, it is the most typical musical group of the interior of Ceará, especially in the area of Cariri. It began with the African slaves' middle, but it grew and acquired its own peculiarities among the people of Cariri. There is also an indigenous influence, due to the use of instruments of indigenous characteristics (pífanos and pífaros). The band is composed of 4 people playing zabumba, pífaros and a caixa. The most famous is the Irmãos Aniceto's Cabaçal Banda, from Crato. They play almost all popular music: old, regional, religious and from carnival. The rhythm is the baião, characteristic of the foothills of Cariri. It generally appears in festivities of cultural, artistic and religious importance.
