Ancient Guarani indian settlements where an interesting social, economic and cultural model was developed. The ruins of those missions are located in Brazilian, Paraguayan and Argentinean territories and is of a peculiar baroque architectonic splendor.

Going south from the Falls Area, into the inner parts of the Misiones province, by the banks of the ParanĂ¡ River, are found what is known to be the most remarkable social and political experiences of South American history. The Jesuit Missions transformed and christianized the Guarani Indians. Under the symbol of a cross the Indians were taught about religion, arts, carpentry and the general usesage of tools. These ruins are silent witnesses of the enterprise that somehow altered the indigenous social life.
