In June, Pernambuco's nights are cheerfully decorated with bonfires, fireworks and colourful balloons. Popular and religious celebrations honouring the June saints go on throughout the State. Especially noteworthy are the following festivals: Saint Anthony's (13th) in Recife, Saint John's and 'Bacamarteiro' (23rd) in Caruaru, Acorda-Povo' ('Wake the People') Procession Bandeira de Sao Joao (23rd) in Recife, Fisherman's Festival (28th) in Goiana and maritime processions honoring Saint Peter in various seaside towns.
