Gramado is a small tourist town. These mountains and German region are known as "Serra Gaúcha". The majority of Gramado's inhabitants are Germanic descendents. Gramado hosts each year the most important South American film festival - Festival de Gramado. The city is most famous for the hydrangeas (hortênsias) flowers that bloom light blue each spring (from September to November).
During Christmas season, Gramado is dcked out in lights and wreathes creating a very attractive decoration. In Knorr Park, one of the wealthier subdivisions in the city of Gramado, one can visit Santa Claus's house in the "Aldeia do Papai Noel", because he apparently chooses to spend his off season time in southern Brazil. Gramado is one of the beautiful towns along the scenic route known as the "Rota Romântica" (Romance route).
