In rural Fazenda Nova, 182 kilometres from Recife, the fabulous city/stage known as Nova Jerusalem has been set up. The city is surrounded by stone walls and contains twelve buildings, covering an area of 70,000 square meters. 500 local actors relive the Passion of Christ in rich, dramatic presentations held daily during this period. Additional tour buses leave Recife and other cities for Brejo da Madre de Deus especially for the re-enactment.
