You will be picked up at your hotel in Recife and driven 140 kms west to the small village of Caruaru with its large and most unusual market (only on Saturdays). The 10.000 stalls sell anything and everything. You can bargain or even exchange goods. This is not just any market, it is a complete experience! In addition to the normal stalls you will find foodstalls, street theatre and singers mocking thegovernment.
The ceramic goods are a speciality of the region. These stalls are irresistible to photographers.
Considered by UNESCO as the biggest center of figurative arts of America, Caruaru detaches for its art in adobe, leather, ropes and all the natural beauties of the Pernambucano wasteland people. There you can find: the most famous Popular Fair of Brazil, the Handicraft fair, the Museum of Adobe and Forró which is a huge scenic area with typical constructions from interior cities where, during all June month. The greatest party is São João.
After that you will visit Nova Jerusalem, a city theater, surrounded by a wall with seventy towers, with an area of 70,000 square meters. Spread in this area are twelve stage-buildings where is performed the Christ Passion drama and each spectator is transformed into an actor. There is also the Monumental Sculptures park.
