Brazil's first Constitution under the Republic (1891) established a presidential
system and three independent powers: Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary. Brazil
is a federative republic composed of 26 States and one Federal District where Brasília,
the capital of the country, is situated. Voting is compulsory.

Brazilīs economy has traditionally been based on the export of natural resources
and agriculture. Recent years have brought a significant increase in exports with
major successes in beef and chicken, soya beans and even aircraft (not to mention
soccer players!). New discoveries of oil reserves mean that Brazil will soon be
self-sufficient.
